Aug 2 Live Music at Thirty Eight with Alex Dunn presented by Whitefish Music Scene |
Live Music at Thirty Eight with Alex Dunn Presented By Whitefish Music Scene
Alex Dunn uses his own personal blend of Folk/Americana to reflect on the many lives he's led, from his youth along the border of Colorado and Wyoming to the quiet moments aboard commercial fishing vessels in the remote waters of Southeast Alaska, where he spent over a decade toiling on the sea and writing songs during his down time. Melodic sawdust and salt air, his music breathes with a sense of place, yet is imminently accessible and speaks to the universal. |

Aug 5 Merie Productions Presents: The Music of Fleetwood Mac |
They’ve sold out every show since 2023—and for good reason.
This is more than a tribute. It’s a full-body, full-heart revival of the music that defined an era. From Landslide to Go Your Own Way, it’s the soundtrack of every road trip, breakup, and dance floor that ever meant something.
And the band?
A hand-picked lineup of Whitefish favorites: Meredith Patterson, Dustin Brayley, Halladay Quist, Ross Bridgeman, Matt Brua, Matt Seymour, and Jeremy Reinbolt—all sharing the stage to bring this music roaring back to life.
Expect harmony. Expect heartbreak. Expect volume.
This show sells out fast. So rally your crew, lace up your boots, and come scream the choruses you thought you forgot

Aug 6 WCC Film Series: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot - August 6, 2025 |
This summer, the Wachholz College Center is excited to launch the WCC FILM SERIES, an ongoing series featuring a variety of films and film themes throughout each season. Each film will feature a short talk-back to begin the evening, providing the audience with important information and interesting facts about the film(s) they are about to view.
The theme for the summer of 2025 is MADE IN MONTANA - featuring a selection of cinema highlighting several lesser-known movies that were shot under the Big Sky! While production crews often utilize Montana's stunning backgrounds to set the scene before retreating to the comfort of a studio lot, the seven feature films of this summer were created almost entirely in the Treasure State. Therefore, each one taps into the same culture and landscapes we all share and relates it back to us in new and surprising ways. We hope that by curating a lineup of Montana-centric cinema specifically for the community, audiences might find something new and surprising about our home state in each one of these films.
FEATURED FILM:
Title: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot
Year: 1974
Director: Michael Camino
Starring: Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges, George Kennedy
Rated: R (Nudity, Sexuality, Violence, Language)
Run Time: 1 hr 55 min
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, directed by Michael Cimino in his acclaimed debut and starring Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges, is a gripping blend of crime drama, buddy comedy, and a western with modern flair. The film follows “Thunderbolt” (Eastwood), a retired bank robber posing as a preacher, and “Lightfoot” (Bridges), a young drifter who unexpectedly becomes his partner-in-crime. Their chemistry drives the story, moving from high-stakes pursuits to emotional interplay, with Lightning Bolt’s witty banter contrasting Thunderbolt’s stoic world-weariness . Featuring a standout supporting cast—George Kennedy, Geoffrey Lewis, Catherine Bach—and punctuated by car chases and heartfelt moments, the film box-officed impressively, grossing about $25?million on a modest $2–4?million budget, earning Bridges an Oscar nod along the way.
Montana isn't just the backdrop—it’s the very soul of the movie. Filmed entirely on location across Big Sky Country—including Great Falls, Hobson, Ulm, Fort Benton, Augusta, Choteau, and the Gates of the Mountains—the landscapes breathe authenticity into the plot. Iconic scenes unfold by St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hobson, along I-15 near Dearborn (standing in for the fictional Warsaw), and on rivers like the Missouri (misstated as the Snake River in the script) and in national forests where Eastwood’s character tends to his wounds. The film’s visual language—bombastic chases, serene river moments, quaint town streets—reflects Montana’s dual identity as a land of freedom and harshness. Cimino and Eastwood scouted thousands of miles to capture this feel, and the genuine locations—including drive-ins, churches, bars, and authentic roadside landscapes—anchor the characters in a real, tangible frontier. |

Aug 7 Artist Reception: Donald Yatomi "Rediscovered Routines" |
We are so excited to host local artist Donald Yatomi in our Whitefish Gallery with 18 new paintings of local spaces in the Flathead Valley! Donald’s personal origin was littered with the grit of poverty in a low-income part of Honolulu, and it is for this reason that he is drawn to uncelebrated spaces. Compositional and formal rules are present yet discreet in his work, blended into an unorthodox color palette, functioning as a familiar hook waiting for the observer.
Join us for an artist reception celebrating the opening of Rediscovered Routines in conjunction with Whitefish Gallery Nights on Thursday, August 7th from 5-8pm for refreshments and an evening with the artist!

Aug 7 Taj Mahal |
WCC is excited to welcome TAJ MAHAL to the Flathead Valley. Taj Mahal doesn't wait for permission. If a sound intrigues him, he sets out to make it. If origins mystify him, he moves to trace them. If rules get in his way, he unapologetically breaks them. To Taj, convention means nothing, but traditions are holy. He has pushed music and culture forward, all while looking lovingly back. "I just want to be able to make the music that I'm hearing come to me — and that's what I did," Taj says. The 82-year-old is home in Berkeley, reflecting on six + decades of music making. "When I say, 'I did,' I'm not coming from the ego. The music comes from somewhere. You're just the conduit it comes through. You're there to receive the gift."
Taj is a towering musical figure — a legend who transcended the blues not by leaving them behind, but by revealing their magnificent scope to the world. "The blues is bigger than most people think," he says. "You could hear Mozart play the blues. It might be more like a lament. It might be more melancholy. But I'm going to tell you: the blues is in there." If anyone knows where to find the blues, it's Taj. A brilliant artist with a musicologist's mind, he has pursued and elevated the roots of beloved sounds with boundless devotion and skill. Then, as he traced origins to the American South, the Caribbean, Africa, and elsewhere, he created entirely new sounds, over and over again. As a result, he's not only a god to rock-and-roll icons such as Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones, but also a hero to ambitious artists toiling in obscurity who are determined to combine sounds that have heretofore been ostracized from one another. No one is as simultaneously traditional and avant-garde. Quantifying Taj's significance is impossible, but people try anyway.

VinYin is a combination of Vinyasa and Yin yoga. We start with the movement and dynamic flow of Vinyasa and ease into passive, longer holds that are practiced in Yin.
Using bowls and chimes, the sound bath stimulates your vagus nerve to relax the body, quiet the mind and provide safety for your nervous system.

Aug 13 Live Music at Thirty Eight with Maggie, Andrew & Ed presented by Whitefish Music Scene |
Live Music at Thirty Eight with Maggie, Andrew & Ed Presented By Whitefish Music Scene
Maggie Lynch, Andrew Brozek & Ed pair up for a memorable evening of music at Thirty Eight! Maggie's style blends singer/songwriter Folk/Rock with rhythm-driven strumming and the intricate grace of Travis picking. From her Irish Catholic VT folk roots, church choirs, musical theater, bonfire bellowing, meadow walk whistling, and mother of nine lullaby serenades—Maggie’s voice carries both a history and a presence that’s impossible to ignore. Whether you're sitting in a cozy listening room or under the stars at a backyard show, Maggie will charm you with her smile, spirit, and song. Andrew has played guitar since he was 11 years old and has been singing for even longer. He has a passion for Folk, Americana, and Bluegrass, loves the elegance and simplicity of acoustic music, and is dedicated to making his instruments an extension of himself. |

Aug 13 WCC Film Series: Heaven's Gate |
Title: Heaven's Gate
Year: 1980
Director: Michael Cimino
Starring: Kris Kristofferson, Christopher Walken, John Hurt
Rated: R (Nudity, Graphic Violence, Language, Drug Use)
Run Time: 1hr 47mins
Heaven’s Gate, directed by Michael Cimino, is an epic Western that dramatizes the Johnson County War of the 1890s, in which wealthy Wyoming cattle barons clashed violently with immigrant homesteaders. Cimino assembled a star-studded cast—including Kris Kristofferson, Christopher Walken, Isabelle Huppert, Jeff Bridges, and John Hurt—and pursued an obsessive level of detail in production, shooting over 220 hours of footage with Vilmos Zsigmond’s lush cinematography. Upon its release, it became infamous as a box-office bomb—costing around $44 million but earning just $3.5 million—becoming the flop that nearly bankrupted United Artists and signaling the end of the fleeting era of director-driven Hollywood. Montana serves as both a magnificent backdrop and a crucible for Heaven’s Gate’s ambitions. Filmed extensively in northwest Montana—from the shores of Two Medicine Lake where the fictional town of Sweetwater was built, to scenes shot near Kalispell, Glacier National Park, and Flathead Valley—the production profoundly impacted the region, both economically and environmentally. While the local economy soared—bringing in around $14 million and employing hundreds of Montanans as extras and crew—the film crew’s heavy footprint prompted backlash, including Landmark Park Service bans due to ecological damage in sensitive areas. Its massive sets—like the iconic roller-skate rink and the log-structured main street—now linger in local lore and have influenced Glacier Park film tourism and heritage preservation efforts
In sum, Heaven’s Gate is inseparable from Montana: its sweeping vistas and historical towns emerged directly from the landscape, while the public and critical outcry reflect the tension between cinematic grandeur and environmental stewardship in America’s rural heart. |

Here in Montana, we understand that not everyone has been exposed to the cowboy way of life that is part of our heritage. At Brash Rodeo, we offer an opportunity to go behind the chutes where the cowboys and cowgirls get ready to go up against some of the country's finest four legged athletes. You will see wild untamed action in an unprecedented way. Enjoy the entire show from the top of the bucking chutes or spend part of your time with us and the rest in the bleachers, it's your choice. We need to let you know that behind the chutes you will be exposed to both livestock and contestants, manure and colorful language are both good possibilities. You will gain access to the back pens and have a chance to meet cowboys and cowgirls as they prepare for the rodeo. Please dress in your best rodeo attire. Boots or closed toed shoes are preferred as manure is difficult to clean from the inside of sandals. Tickets are limited, so get them while you can!

Aug 20 Live music at The Tiki Bar featuring Andrew Brozek |
Andrew has been playing guitar for over half of his life – starting at the age of 11 – and he's been singing for even longer. Andrew's currently studying music at Dartmouth College, with a focus on songwriting and performance.
Although he was raised on classic rock and pop-country, he eventually found his passion for Folk, Americana, and Bluegrass. He loves the elegance and simplicity of acoustic music, and is dedicated to making his instruments an extension of himself. Though he no longer identifies with the genres of his youth, this past exposure has resulted in his unique perspective on music. And while he is only beginning to establish himself as a songwriter, the fingerprints of songwriters who came before him can be found all throughout his music. |

Aug 20 WCC Film Series: Sweetgrass |
Title: Sweetgrass
Year: 2009
Director: Lucien Castaing-Taylor
Starring: Hundreds of Sheep
Rated: NR
Run Time: 1hr 41mins
Sweetgrass, directed by Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Ilisa Barbash, is a poignant, observational documentary chronicling the last traditional sheep drive in Montana. The film closely follows a single family of Norwegian-American shepherds as they guide around 3,000 sheep into the Absaroka-Beartooth Mountains for summer grazing. Filmed over several years beginning in 2001, the movie is pared-back and immersive: devoid of narration, musical score, or overt commentary, it relies instead on long, unbroken takes that capture the rhythm, labor, and unpredictability of this disappearing way of life . The result is a meditation on the interplay between humans, animals, and the rugged landscape—unfiltered, intimate, and at times brutally realistic, such as in moments of lambing, shearing, or fending off predators.
Montana isn’t just the film's setting; it’s the heartbeat of Sweetgrass. The title nods to Sweet Grass County, and the footage was captured near Big Timber and within the vast Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, showcasing the shifting seasons, high-altitude passes, and sweeping vistas that define the region. This was truly the last of its kind—the outlawed mass sheep drives ended around 2003–2005, marking the close of a century-old tradition. Critics and viewers alike have praised its unsentimental elegance and its role as both a documentary and a cultural eulogy for the American West. The film stands as a visual and sonic elegy to Montana’s pastoral heritage and to an era slipping quietly into history. |

Aug 22 Keb' Mo' & Shawn Colvin |
Wachholz College Center is pleased to welcome two of music's most renowned singer-songwriters, Keb' Mo' and Shawn Colvin, to the Flathead Valley. Don't miss your chance to see both of these amazing musicians together in one night playing a mix of acoustic and full band sets.
About KEB' MO'
Born and raised in Compton, Keb’ began his remarkable journey at the age of 21, when he landed his first major gig playing with Jefferson Airplane violinist Papa John Creach. For the next 20 years, Keb’ would work primarily behind the scenes, establishing himself as a respected guitarist, songwriter, and arranger with a unique gift for linking the past and present in his evocative playing and singing. Though he recorded a one-off album in 1980 under his birth name, Kevin Moore, it wasn’t until 1994 that he would introduce the world to Keb’ Mo’ with the release of his widely acclaimed self-titled debut. Critics were quick to take note of Keb’s modern, genre-bending take on old school sounds, and two years later, he garnered his first GRAMMY Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album with Just Like You. In the decades to come, Keb’ would take home four more GRAMMY Awards; top the Billboard Blues Chart seven times; perform everywhere from Carnegie Hall to The White House; collaborate with many including Taj Mahal, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, The Chicks, and Lyle Lovett; have compositions recorded and sampled by artists as diverse as B.B. King, Zac Brown, and BTS; release signature guitars with both Gibson and Martin; compose music for television series like Mike and Molly, Memphis Beat, B Positive, and Martha Stewart Living; and earn the Americana Music Association’s 2021 award for Lifetime Achievement in Performance. With five GRAMMYs, 14 Blues Foundation Awards, and a groundbreaking career spanning nearly 50 years under his belt, Keb’ Mo’s got nothing left to prove. Just don’t tell him that. His hits include “Am I Wrong”, “ Will The Circle Be Unbroken”, “Diving Duck Blues” and more!
About SHAWN COLVIN
In an era when female singer-songwriters are ever more ubiquitous, Shawn Colvin stands out as a singular and enduring talent. Her songs are slow-release works of craft and catharsis that become treasured, lifetime companions for their listeners. The song “Sunny Came Home” gave Colvin a Top 10 hit, a platinum-selling album and two of GRAMMY’s biggest honors: Record of the Year and Song of the Year. As a storyteller, Colvin is both keen and warm-hearted, leavening even the toughest tales with tenderness, empathy, and a searing sense of humor. In the 30 years since the release of her debut album, Colvin has won three GRAMMY Awards, released thirteen albums, written a critically acclaimed memoir, maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule, appeared on countless television and radio programs, had her songs featured in major motion pictures and created a remarkable canon of work. Her hits include “Sunny Came Home”, “Boulder to Birmingham”, “Never Saw Blue Like That” and more. |

Aug 22 - Aug 23 KR3TURE, THE SPOOKLIGHTS & BLAKE FROM A LAKE |
Foundation Entertainment x Montana Kush Presents: Kr3ture, The Spooklights & Blake from a Lake
You all loved him so much, he's back! And this time, Kr3ture is bringing along another lineup of epic musicians for not one, but two unforgettable nights of music in Whitefish. Catch a deal for both nights by purchasing your night one, and using the discount to get night 2!
Artist Bios
Kr3ture
Hailing from the hills of Santa Cruz, CA, KR3TURE is a pioneer of modern live/electronic fusion. As an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, producer, and performer, his music seamlessly blends genres – from ambient and downtempo to glitch and heavy bass – creating sonic experiences that defy categorization.
On stage, KR3TURE thrives on improvisation, using guitar and saxophone to fuel the dancefloor in real-time, channeling raw emotions into each performance. His shows are one-of-a-kind explorations, weaving original compositions into powerful, transcendent experiences shared between artist and audience.
KR3TURE has collaborated with artists such as Moontricks, The Human Experience, Equanimous, Morillo, and SaQi, continuously pushing boundaries and growing his dedicated following. Keep an ear out for his blissful sounds as he redefines what live electronic music can be.
The Spooklights (formerly MK Ultra)
Banjos and synthesizers... dulcimers and wubs... strange flashing lights... unexplained phenomena.
The Spooklights is a collaboration between Ben Miller and Pat Kay, two renowned torchbearers of the Ozark mountain music tradition who have taken their talents into a new dimension. During the lockdown, they traded keys to each other’s bunkers of busted toys and forlorn experiments, soldering together electronic music and their trademark “Ozark Stomp Grass.”
What emerged is a jangle-stomp time machine exploring hillbilly music from a distant future. Expect homemade gear, fringe ideas, and a journey that’s “only weird the first time.” Hop in, y’all.
Blake From a Lake
What more can we say about this absolute guitar strumming gangster, shrimp jambalaya making, bi-product from Louisiana turned Montana badass! You're in for a real treat! He will be setting the pace for the evening bringing a little bit of everything!

Aug 23 - Aug 24 The Sponges, KR3TURE, Madam Bliss, & Reidardie |
Get ready, Whitefish!
Foundation Entertainment and MT Kush are bringing the second night of unforgettable music to The Remington. Featuring the four-on-the-floor vibes and bass-driven grooves of The Sponges, a special DJ set by Kr3ture, the infectious energy of Madam Bliss, and the dynamic sounds of Reidardie, this lineup is guaranteed to keep you moving all night long.
The Sponges have become well known for their unmistakable signature sound in dance music. Their combination of tasteful ‘70s funk and disco samples, psychedelic sound design, heavy basslines, and four-on-the-floor house rhythms can instantly be recognized as one of The Sponges’ finely tuned productions.
After working with many of the artists who originally influenced them – including Purple Disco Machine, GRiZ, AC Slater, Kyle Watson, Opiuo, The Floozies, Manic Focus, and Lettuce – The Sponges have established themselves as a respected act of their own in the world of electronic music. Since their arrival in 2019, they’ve garnered millions of streams, five #1 records on Beatport, and a massive touring career.
The duo, composed of the collective minds of Ryan Slepin and Nik Eaton, have been invited to play some of the top music festivals in the Western Hemisphere, including Shambhala, Friendship AMF, and Envision. After releasing their debut EP and completing their first-ever headline tour in 2023, sights are set high for The Sponges as they continue to develop into an international powerhouse.

Aug 27 WCC Film Series:Thousand Pieces of Gold |
FEATURED FILM:
Title: Thousand Pieces of Gold
Year: 1991
Director: Nancy Kelly
Starring: Rosalind Chao, Chris Cooper, Michael Paul Chan
Rated: PG-13 (Sexual Situations, Violence, Language)
Run Time: 1hr 45mins
A young Chinese woman fights for her independence after she is sold into marriage and forced to live in a gold rush boomtown. In the early 1870s, at the age of 18, a young Chinese woman, who would later become known as Polly Bemis, was sold into a forced marriage. She was trafficked across the Pacific to San Francisco (using Butte's historic downtown as proxy), and sent to a gold-mining camp in Idaho, though the entire film was produced east of the Bitterroot Mountains in Madison County. In Idaho she became concubine to wealthy Chinese businessman Hong King, before eventually gaining her freedom and homesteading along the Salmon River with husband, Charlie Bemis. Thousand Pieces of Gold, based upon the biography by Ruth Lum McCunn, dramatizes real episodes in Polly’s life to imagine her journey towards personal autonomy in an intersectional Western narrative that was decades ahead of its time.
Chinese American actress Rosalind Chao’s first notable role was a guest appearance as a South Korean refugee on the series finale of M*A*S*H, which she reprised as a main cast member in the short-lived follow-up, After MASH. She later had a recurring role on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as a Japanese exo-botanist and currently stars in Netflix’s adaptation of the acclaimed Chinese sci-fi novel The Three-Body Problem. In the Western biopic Thousand Pieces of Gold, Chao brings pioneer Polly Bemis to life with weary innocence and cautious curiosity. Through her portrayal we see the American West through the eyes of a foreigner, experiencing in equal parts the horror of hostile territory and the thrill of new experiences.

FEATURED FILM:
Title: The Missouri Breaks
Year: 1976
Director: Arthur Penn
Starring: Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson
Rated: R (Violence, Language, Brief Sexual References)
Run Time: 2hr 6mins
The Missouri Breaks (1976), directed by Arthur Penn, is a revisionist Western featuring powerhouse performance from Marlon Brando and Jack Nicholson. Brando portrays Robert E. Lee Clayton, an enigmatic “regulator” hired to hunt down a gang of cattle rustlers led by Nicholson’s Tom Logan. Set in the rugged and morally ambiguous frontier of the 1880s, the film weaves themes of justice, revenge, and the clash between authority and outlaw culture. Its unusual pairing of two Hollywood legends—Brando with his offbeat mannerisms and Nicholson with his roguish charm—creates a dynamic tension that underscores the film’s unsettling take on frontier myth, further enhanced by John Williams’s evocative score.
Montana is not just a backdrop in The Missouri Breaks; it is fundamental to the film’s very identity. The title itself refers to the dramatic eroded cliffs, canyons, and badlands carved by the Missouri River in north-central Montana. Principal photography took place across multiple authentic Montana locations—including Billings and its surrounding ranches, Red Lodge, Virginia City, Harrison, and the historic Bovey Restorations in Nevada City—grounding the narrative in real frontier spaces. This genuine sense of place reinforces the film’s depiction of the vast, untamed landscape as a character in its own right: a harsh, unforgiving territory where law and survival are inseparable, mirroring the internal fractures of its protagonists. |

Sep 5 The Whags with Schticky |
The Whags, on tour from Seattle, return to the Great Northern for a night of jam, americana, funk and groove. The group released their second album, All Along the Water There's a Mountain Song, on August 8th and are hitting the road in support of that record. Tracked at Woodinville?s famed Bear Creek Studios, the album vividly encapsulates the wide net they cast over Americana, replete with southern-rock guitar licks, the dual vocals of bluegrass, and the same enchanting aura of classic jam bands. Like a walk in nature enhanced by magic mushrooms, All Along the Water?s details flicker into strange, vibrant shapes resembling memories of influences past. The live show expands upon the tight compositions found on the album and allows the band to create expansive textures and exploratory jam sections. Wherever they choose to travel, there?s a refreshing unseriousness to their gait, an unwillingness to profess that their music is anything more than it actually is ? musician friends synced up in the moment and recorded to tape. Local psych funk group Schticky supports. |

Sep 24 Glacier Book Club: Natural Rivals |
Join Executive Director, Doug Mitchell, on Zoom and have a discussion with author John Clayton about the book Natural Rivals.
Register here: https://glacier.org/glacier-book-club/
About The Book:
Natural Rivals traces the contrasting philosophies of John Muir, the idealistic naturalist who fought to preserve wilderness, and Gifford Pinchot, the pragmatic founder of the U.S. Forest Service who promoted sustainable resource management. Their rivalry, highlighted by the Hetch Hetchy dam debate and earlier experiences like their 1896 camping trip in Montana, shaped the creation of America’s public lands system. The book explores how their competing approaches ultimately helped establish national parks and forests, highlighting the lasting impact of their differing visions. |

Sep 25 Pinky and the Floyd |
Pinky and the Floyd will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic album "Wish You Were Here" with a series of can't-miss performances in Fall of 2025. These shows will hold a particularly special weight for the band and their fans as they mark their first performances following the recent passing of their beloved keyboardist (and founding member), Joe Kirchner. While his absence will be deeply felt, the band is dedicated to honoring his memory by bringing the timeless music of Pink Floyd to the stage with the passion and artistry that Joe himself embodied.
"Wish You Were Here," released in 1975, holds a significant place in Pink Floyd's history as the follow-up to their groundbreaking album, "The Dark Side of the Moon." More than just a successor, "Wish You Were Here" served as a poignant tribute to the band's founding member, Syd Barrett, whose struggles with mental health led to his departure. The album's themes of absence, alienation, and the pressures of the music industry resonate deeply, making this 50th-anniversary celebration a particularly meaningful moment to reflect on how these themes remain powerfully relevant in today's world.
Prepare to be transported as Pinky and the Floyd deliver "Wish You Were Here" in its full glory, artfully blending each track with a selection of other cherished gems from the vast Pink Floyd catalog.

Oct 16 Sam Bush |
In 1971, Sam Bush and his Bluegrass Alliance mates - Ebo Walker, Courtney Johnson, and Curtis Burch - formed the New Grass Revival, issuing the band's debut, "New Grass Revival". Walker left soon after, replaced temporarily by Butch Robins, with the quartet solidifying around the arrival of bassist John Cowan. "There were already people that had deviated from Bill Monroe's style of bluegrass," Bush explains. "If anything, we were reviving a newgrass style that had already been started. Our kind of music tended to come from the idea of long jams and rock-&-roll songs."
Shunned by some traditionalists, New Grass Revival played bluegrass fests slotted in late-night sets for the "long-hairs and hippies." Quickly becoming a favorite of rock audiences, they garnered the attention of Leon Russell, one of the era's most popular artists. Russell hired New Grass as his supporting act on a massive tour in 1973 that put the band nightly in front of tens of thousands. At tour's end, it was back to headlining six nights a week at an Indiana pizza joint. But, they were resilient, grinding it out on the road. And in 1975 the Revival first played Telluride, Colorado, forming a connection with the region and its fans that has prospered for 45 years.
Bush was the newgrass commando, incorporating a variety of genres into the repertoire. He discovered a sibling similarity with the reggae rhythms of Marley and The Wailers, and, accordingly, developed an ear-turning original style of mandolin playing. The group issued five albums in their first seven years, and in 1979 became Russell's backing band. By 1981, Johnson and Burch left the group, replaced by banjoist Bela Fleck and guitarist Pat Flynn.
A three-record contract with Capitol Records and a conscious turn to the country market took the Revival to new commercial heights. Bush survived a life-threatening bout with cancer, and returned to the group that'd become more popular than ever. They released chart-climbing singles, made videos, earned Grammy nominations, and, at their zenith, called it quits. "We were on the verge of getting bigger," recalls Bush. "Or maybe we'd gone as far as we could. I'd spent 18 years in a four-piece partnership. I needed a break. But, I appreciated the 18 years we had."
Bush worked the next five years with Emmylou Harris' Nash Ramblers, then a stint with Lyle Lovett. He took home three-straight IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year awards, 1990-92, (and a fourth in 2007). In 1995 he reunited with Fleck, now a burgeoning superstar, and toured with the Flecktones, reigniting his penchant for improvisation. Then, finally, after a quarter-century of making music with New Grass Revival and collaborating with other bands, Sam Bush went solo.
He's released seven albums and a live DVD over the past two decades. In 2009, the Americana Music Association awarded Bush the Lifetime Achievement Award for Instrumentalist. Punch Brothers, Steep Canyon Rangers, and Greensky Bluegrass are just a few present-day bluegrass vanguards among so many musicians he's influenced. His performances are annual highlights of the festival circuit, with Bush's joyous perennial appearances at the town's famed bluegrass fest earning him the title, "King of Telluride."
"With this band I have now I am free to try anything. Looking back at the last 50 years of playing newgrass, with the elements of jazz improvisation and rock-&-roll, jamming, playing with New Grass Revival, Leon, and Emmylou; it's a culmination of all of that," says Bush. "I can unapologetically stand onstage and feel I'm representing those songs well." |

Oct 24 Gaelic Storm |
WCC is pleased to welcome GAELIC STORM back to the Flathead Valley for a return performance following their inaugural show in McClaren Hall in 2024.
It’s hard to imagine a band just coming into their own after 20 years of success, but that’s exactly what makes a true anomaly. GAELIC STORM, the multi-national Celtic music juggernaut grows stronger with each live performance, and as you can imagine, after two decades and over 2,000 shows, are a true force to be reckoned with. With their latest release, Go Climb a Tree, their music has never sounded more representative of themselves as musicians and as live performers.
The band attributes their continued success to their fanatic audience, and it’s a well-diversified crowd for sure. The country-music folks adore the storytelling, the bluegrass-heads love the instrumentals, Celtic fans love their devotion to tradition, and the rockers simply relish the passion they play their instruments with. Each band member, in their own way, expresses a deep gratitude for their fans, but it’s best summed up in the words of Patrick Murphy: “The fans are the ones that have given us this life. We’re here for them." |

Oct 25 The Tallest Man on Earth |
"Music is my primary way of asking really loud questions. Most of my songs are big life questions, how to live and function in this world".
The Swedish singer-songwriter troubadour Kristian Matsson, better known as The Tallest Man on Earth has a rare talent for captivating an audience with just his raw, grainy voice and a guitar. He plays various string instruments, ranging from acoustic guitar, banjo and he recently picked up and started exploring the realm of the violin as well. The coming year will see him on the road again through Europe and North America.
The project of Kristian Matsson - who has spent much of the last 19 years touring around the world as The Tallest Man on Earth - has captivated audiences using “every inch of his long guitar cord to roam the stage: darting around, crouching, stretching, hip-twitching, perching briefly and jittering away…” (The New York Times). In 2020, Matsson left New York City and returned to his farm in Sweden where he drowned out his thoughts by manically growing vegetables in his garden. It was only near the end of 2021, as he began to tour again, that the inspiration returned. “When I’m in motion, I can focus on my instinct, have my daydreams again. When I was finally able to tour again, I started writing like a madman.” He eventually had a collection of songs, revealing what would become Henry St, an album that sees Matsson exploring his own stubborn optimism and “how to be a person in this world”.
After 2015's Dark Bird Is Home, described by Pitchfork as his "most personal record... surreal and dreamlike," and his self-released I Love You, It’s a Fever Dream in 2019, Kristian Matsson returned in 2022 with the intricate cover album Too Late for Edelweiss. In 2023, he unveiled his sixth album, Henry St., marking the first time he recorded with a full band. “For most of my career, I’ve been a DIY artist, driven by the feeling that I didn’t know what I was doing, so I just handled everything myself,” Matsson explained. But with Henry St., he craved the creative spark that comes from collaboration and invited his friends to join him in the studio.
Critics often draw comparisons between The Tallest Man on Earth and Bob Dylan, citing similarities in both songwriting and vocal style. Matsson himself has acknowledged Dylan's influence, revealing that he started listening to him at the age of fifteen. Fascinated by Dylan's covers, he delved into their origins, which gradually introduced him to early American folk artists like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. However, Matsson is quick to distance himself from being part of any specific tradition, stating, “I don’t want to be part of a tradition. I just want to do what feels natural to me. This is how I play, and this is how I write songs". |

“Sedaris has hit upon the narrative equivalent of Pepsi, or the PlayStation, or oxygen, or the haircut: something that others in the world might actually want and find useful. . . He’s smart, he’s caustic, he’s mordant, and, somehow, he’s . . . well, nice.” -Bill Richardson, Toronto Globe and Mail
“Sedaris’s droll assessment of the mundane and the eccentrics who inhabit the world’s crevices make him one of the greatest humorists writing today.” -Chicago Tribune
“Sedaris belongs on any list of people writing in English at the moment who are revising our ideas about what’s funny.” -San Francisco Chronicle

FREE Tickets are available for STUDENTS of all grade levels.
THE EVEREST ENIGMA
Everest has always loomed large in our collective imaginations as the perfect embodiment of what a mountain should be: beautiful, terrifying - and yet, irresistible. But who really was the first to answer its siren call? History tells us that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made the first ascent in May 1953, but there has always been a tantalizing possibility that British mountaineers George Leigh Mallory and Andrew “Sandy” Irvine may have beaten them to it. Mallory and Irvine were last seen on June 8, 1924, at 28,200 feet - just 800 feet shy of the summit - still going strong for the top. Could they have summited before they vanished into the clouds? The Everest Enigma is the tale of Mark Synnott’s quest to solve this 100-year-old mystery, a modern-day detective story that will take you from the archives of the RGS in London to high in the Death Zone, and then finally to the base of the North Face - where Sandy’s partial remains recently emerged from the ice.
About Mark
Mark Synnott is a New York Times best-selling author, a pioneering professional climber, a North Face athlete, and one of the most prolific explorers of his generation. His search for unclimbed and unexplored mountains has taken him on more than three dozen expeditions to places like Alaska, Baffin Island, Greenland, Iceland, Newfoundland, Patagonia, Guyana, Venezuela, Pakistan, Nepal, India, China, Tibet, Uzbekistan, Russia, Cameroon, Chad, Borneo, Oman and Pitcairn Island. In Yosemite, he has climbed El Capitan 24 times. In 2019, Mark summited Mount Everest via the Northeast Ridge, an adventure chronicled in his book The Third Pole: Mystery, Obsession and Death on Mount Everest. More recently, he sailed his 47-foot fiberglass-hulled sailboat Polar Sun through the Northwest Passage, an adventure chronicled in his fourth book, Into the Ice: The Northwest Passage, the Polar Sun, and a 175-year-old Mystery. Mark’s film and television credits include work for National Geographic Television, Disney, NBC Sports, ABC, Warren Miller Entertainment, Teton Gravity Research, and Red Bull. An accomplished journalist, he contributes regularly to National Geographic magazine, and is the author of the international bestseller, The Impossible Climb: Alex Honnold, El Capitan and the Climbing Life.

INSIDE WONDERLAB: EXPLORING NATURE'S HIDDEN WORLDS
Step into a world of wonder with biologist-turned-photographer Anand Varma as he unlocks the mysteries of nature through cutting-edge photography techniques. In his Berkeley-based WonderLab, Anand captures the invisible behaviors of the natural world, beyond our naked eye. His images and videos reveal the hidden worlds that exist just outside of our perception, from the mesmerizing life cycle of a honeybee to the lightning-fast wings of a hummingbird. With Anand’s expert guidance, we can slow down the fast, speed up the slow, and magnify the miniature, enabling us to see the true beauty and complexity of the natural world.
About Anand
With a background in integrative biology, Anand Varma uses photography and video to share the science and stories behind things the naked eye cannot perceive - like the mating practices of jellyfish and the hunting habits of vampire bats in the Yucatan rain forest. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, Anand spent several years assisting photographer David Liittschwager before receiving a National Geographic grant to document the wetlands of Patagonia in 2010. He has photographed numerous stories for National Geographic magazine, including the 2014 cover story, “Mindsuckers” - revealing the story of the world’s most resourceful parasites, the kind that can alter their hosts’ DNA and even control their minds. He has been a National Geographic emerging explorer, Media Innovation fellow, and Civic Science fellow, and has won the World Press Photo Award for best nature story.

WCC is pleased to welcome VITAMIN STRING QUARTET to the Flathead Valley.

Mar 1 Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra |
WCC is pleased to welcome OTTMAR LIEBERT & LUNA NEGRA to the Flathead Valley.
Ottmar Liebert?s global success can be attributed to a myriad of things ? his creative vision, his determination and a strong sense of melody. Born in Cologne, Germany, he began playing guitar at 11. As an adult he pursued his dreams of playing rock music in Boston, and then settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santa Fe was a fresh start for Liebert in many ways and in addition to returning to the acoustic guitar, he remained open to letting the place define the music he made. It was this openness to the local landscape that defined what was to become his musical style, a mix of Spanish, Mexican and World elements, strong melodies tinged with a shade of melancholy, balanced with upbeat rhythms. Liebert founded the first incarnation of his band, Luna Negra, in 1989.
Liebert has since become one of the most successful instrumental artists of the past decades, entertaining audiences around the world and releasing a catalog of 33 classic albums including live recordings, an orchestral album for Sony Classical, a binaural surround sound recording, remix albums, a lullaby and a flamenco-reggae album.

Mar 15 Rising Appalachia |
WCC is pleased to welcome RISING APPALACHIA to the Flathead Valley.
Rising Appalachia is an internationally touring folk ensemble steeped in the soul of the South. It is the brainchild of Atlanta-raised sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith, rooted in the rich musical traditions of their family and their journey into song as performers, writers, and song catchers. They have that touch that only siblings can have. And now, fresh off the press, they present their first album of cover songs Folk & Anchor, a carefully curated collection of remakes. From Bob Dylan to Hoizer, Erykah Badu to Beyonce, hear these songs in a voice uniquely their own. Recorded at Echo Mountain in Asheville North Carolina, the band has leaned into new renditions of old favorites, showcasing their wide range of style and sound.
Rising Appalachia makes music as a reflection of their times, blending Americana music with lyrics, rhythm and poetry of our times. The band's unique sound was shaped by Leah and Chloe's soulful vocals, simple instrumentation, and seamless harmonies, unique to siblings steeped in the multi-generational music of the South. They are joined by a host of incredible musicians who bring their own cultural influences, enriching the blend of Appalachian, Irish, Americana, Latin and world roots music that defines the smooth sound of Rising Appalachia.
Fronted by Leah and Chloe, and featuring full-time members David Brown (upright bass, baritone guitar), Duncan Wickel (fiddle, cello), and Biko Casini (drums and percussion), expect to be swooned into a tapestry of silky sounds. Their journey has taken them around the world, from sailboat tours across British Columbia to street theater festivals in Southern Italy, a full-time busking career in New Orleans, and traditional song studies in Ireland, Bulgaria, Latin America, and beyond.
They also continue to immerse in community building, cultural exchange programs, traditional folkloric studies, and music gathering everywhere that they go. Their dedication for nearly two decades to their craft has led them to acclaimed appearances (Telluride and Bluegrass Festival, Preservation Jazz Hall, Bob Boilen's Tiny Desk Concert, Red Rocks, and many more) and sold-out concerts at venues across the world. Through their music, Rising Appalachia bridges culture and stories, creating connections that resonate deeply with their audiences of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Expect a boot-stomping banjo tune alongside an acapella ballad... all mashed up with breathtaking cello, a flatpicking guitar medley, and undeniable groove.
Eschewing established industry norms, Leah, Chloe, and their team have followed the invitation to intuitively and independently forge their own path. Sixteen years and seven studio albums in, this is their first full cover album and it welcomes you into an ambitious adventure that has already taken these medicine women around the world and back. Come and make this music your own. |

Apr 11 MOMIX: Alice |
WCC is pleased to bring MOMIX: ALICE to the Flathead Valley. ALICE is a performance by MOMIX, a dance company known for illusion and acrobatics, inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.
DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE...
Travel down the rabbit hole MOMIX-style with Moses Pendleton's newest creation, ALICE, inspired by Alice in Wonderland. As Alice’s body grows and shrinks and grows again, Pendleton’s dancers extend themselves by means of props, ropes, and other dancers.
“I don’t intend to retell the whole Alice story” he says, “but to use it as a taking off point for invention. I’m curious to see what will emerge, and I’m getting curiouser and curiouser the more I learn about Lewis Carroll, who like me was a devoted photographer.”
The Alice story is full of imagery and absurd logic – before there was surrealism there was Alice. Alice is an invitation to invent, to let imagination run and play outside. “Ask Alice,” sang Grace Slick in “White Rabbit” – she also said, “feed your head.”
Pendleton continues, “You can see why I think Alice is a natural fit for MOMIX and an opportunity for us to extend our reach. I want to take this show into places we haven’t been before in terms of the fusion of dancing, lighting, music, costumes, and projected imagery.” As with every MOMIX production, you never quite know what you are going to get. Audiences will be taken on a journey that is both magical, mysterious, fun, eccentric, and much more. As Alice falls down the rabbit hole and experiences every kind of transformation, so will you. |

Apr 19 Solas |
WCC is pleased to welcome SOLAS to the Flathead Valley.
Solas is lighting up stages across the globe as they celebrate three decades of pushing boundaries and honoring traditions in Irish music. Hailed by The Boston Globe as “the finest Celtic ensemble this country has ever produced,” and by The Wall Street Journal as “an Irish traditional band bearing all the marks of greatness,” Solas continues to captivate audiences with their spellbinding musicianship and genre-defying creativity.
Formed in New York City in 1995, Solas quickly rose to prominence as a revolutionary force in Irish-American music. The very first iteration of Solas brought together a lineup of extraordinary talent including multi-instrumentalist Séamus Egan, fiddler Winifred Horan, vocalist Karan Casey, guitarist John Doyle, and accordionist John Williams. Together, they redefined the Celtic sound for a new generation, weaving traditional Irish tunes with elements of folk, bluegrass, Americana, and contemporary songwriting.
Now, with twelve critically acclaimed albums and a reputation for dynamic, emotionally charged live performances, Solas has set new standards for musicianship, repertoire, and intensity. Their debut album Solas (1996) established a bold new voice in traditional music, and each subsequent release has showcased the band’s remarkable ability to tell stories that resonate across time and cultures.
Among their most ambitious works is the 2013 concept album Shamrock City, a deeply personal project inspired by Egan’s great-great-uncle, who immigrated from Ireland to the mining town of Butte, Montana in the early 1900s. The album is a powerful meditation on immigrant identity, labor struggles, and lost dreams, and it solidified Solas’ reputation as not only virtuosic musicians but evocative storytellers.
Their 2016 release, All These Years, marked the band’s 20th anniversary and featured contributions from every past and present member. It was both a celebration of their journey and a showcase of their creative evolution. While Solas has seen various lineup changes over the years, the spirit of innovation and reverence for Irish tradition has remained constant. Through every chapter, founding members Séamus Egan and Winifred Horan have steered the band with passion and vision. In 2025, they are joined by original accordionist John Williams and welcome two celebrated contemporary artists to the stage: renowned Irish singer and flutist Nuala Kennedy and guitarist Alan Murray.
This powerhouse ensemble brings the magic of Solas to life in a performance that promises to be both a homecoming and a new beginning. Audiences can expect an unforgettable musical journey filled with driving rhythms, soaring melodies, and heartfelt vocals that pay tribute to Irish roots while embracing new creative frontiers. Solas’ music has always existed at the intersection of tradition and transformation. Whether interpreting a centuries-old ballad or unveiling an original composition, the band approaches each piece with curiosity, skill, and deep emotional resonance. Their ability to evolve without losing their essence has made them a cornerstone of the Celtic music scene and an inspiration to countless artists.
As they mark their 30th anniversary as a band, Solas invites longtime fans and new listeners alike to join the celebration. |

May 16 Whitefish Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K |
The Whitefish Marathon has grown into one of Montana's top 10 running events. Over 1,500 participants from 41 states attended the 2025 event. Featuring a marathon, half marathon and 5K, the event is most unique because all three event distances start at 8 AM and use the same start and finish line. The Opening Ceremonies are for all regardless of which distance you are attacking. Depot Park is filled with family, friends, vendors and sponsors. Plan to join us to see why it is one of the fastest growing events in the state.
