Oct 1    Mushroom Hunt

Search for wild mushrooms and learn general classifications and identifying characteristics. Dale Johnson, who has been exploring the woods for wild mushrooms for over 30 years, will be leading this spring mushroom foraging expedition. Bring your bear spray and a basket to collect mushrooms. Guidebooks will be provided for hands on identification.

Accessibility: Hunting for mushrooms requires off-trail travel, but the education components will all take place in the parking area.

This program is free and family friendly! We know committing to plans can be difficult--your RSVP is appreciated but not required. When you RSVP, be sure to do so for each member of your party and cancel if you change plans.

Note on Woods Lake Trailhead: The drive out to this trailhead follows a long dirt road that is rough in spots. Please plan accordingly as it about a 30 minute drive from Whitefish. If using google maps, make sure the map is routing you past Beaver Lakes Trailhead.

Oct 4 - Oct 5    Late Night Radio at The Remington
Colorado-based electronic music producer Late Night Radio introduces his latest albumPocket Full of Dreams[Philos Records], an introspective masterpiece skillfully merging reflective rhythms and soul-inspired hip-hopbeats. testament to Late Night Radio's musical prowess, the new album also contemplates the thematic depth of life's pursuits and dreams, tracing the poignant highs and lows of such journeys.A consistent force inthe evolving electronic music landscape ,Alex Medellin(Late Night Radio)consistently crafts authentic soundsbrought to life through his deep-rooted passion and diverse musical explorationsPocket Full of Dreams stands as a testament to Medellin's life experiences, both in the realm of music and beyond. “Creating this album made me realize how important being vulnerable in your art is. And realizing that if I make something I truly relate with, it’s going to resonate with other people that are going through the same struggles,” Alex explains. While shaping Pocket Full of Dreams, the interplay between energetic tour experiences and reflective studio sessions became a key influencer. Alex drew inspiration both from the vibrant energy at shows, and from introspective moments away from the stage. He mentions, “Touring provides inspiration, but the quiet times let me truly connect with my experiences.” This balance sets the stage for Alex's revelation on the album’s deeper themes:“This album was really about me getting back to making music for me and not just worrying about whether this will bump at a live show,” admits Medellin. While touring it’s hard to create without the intention or influence of performing, so to have a break from live shows for a while really gave me a different perspective and the ability to draw on emotion, rather than energy. ”Collaborators on the album include Motifv, Poldoore, and Michal Menert, all of whom have had a significant imprint on Late Night Radio's recent works and tours. "Found (with Motifv)" weaves a compelling story ofevolving dreams and life's challenges. "On My Shoulder" delves deep into the internal conflicts and dilemmas dictating life choices, while "Shining (with Poldoore)" stands as a beacon of positivity, underscoring the unpredictability and beauty of life. Motifv joins Late Night Radio for the upcoming Pocket Full of Dreams Tour and Poldoore will make appearances at select dates this winter. These collaborations have not only enriched the album's sonic tapestry but also deepened its narrative, making every song a distinct chapter in a cohesive story.“This entire album feels very personal to me, it’s hard to pick out a specific track as a favorite,” Alex muses. It’s really about my personal struggle with feeling ‘good enough’ and finding my place ina constantly changing environment. In that sense it’s more like releasing a private journal than an album to me.” Medellin's life-long romance with music is evident in every track. Through the melodies and beats of Pocket Full of Dreams, listeners wil  lfind a narrative rich in emotion, experience, and introspection, inviting listeners toembark on an unparalleled musical journeyand perhaps one of their own self-discovery.“Dream big and don’t give up. We all go through periods of self-doubt, but if you keep going there is always another peak after the valley, no matter how far away it seems.”

Oct 9    Book Reading and Signing: Rooted at the Edge

Rooted at the Edge is a work of creative nonfiction that paints a portrait of a ranching community in a threatened landscape steeped in history, conflict, and beauty. Donna Erickson explores the hilly skirt of ground at the northern boundary of Missoula, Montana, separating the town from the wilderness beyond. The North Hills region represents the critical--and often highly personal--issues at play at the edge of many western towns. We are thrilled to host Donna for a book reading and signing event at our Whitefish gallery at 6pm on Thursday, October 9th!

“In a clear, authentic voice, Donna Erickson herds words with the same acumen and determination she developed moving sheep and cattle in her youth, drawing on her experience of her Montana home to tell a universal tale about attachment to place. She inspires us to think about the future of our surroundings with empathy and common sense, and to see how land creates belonging.” Frederick Steiner, Dean of the Stuart Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania and author of The Living Landscape: An Ecological Approach to Landscape Planning

Oct 16    Forest Bathing

Join us for an evening exploration of forest bathing with Certified Forest Therapy Guide Sharon Stevens. Forest bathing walks are designed to open the door to the healing properties of nature. Unlike a typical nature walk or hike, forest bathing focuses on slowing down, tuning into your senses and deepening your connection with the natural world. We accomplish this through a series of simple, sensory “invitations.”

Participants should come prepared for the following:

- Long pants are recommended for off-trail travel

- Appropriate clothing for the weather and warmth for slow travel or periods of sitting

- You might bring a light weight camp stool, yoga mat or sit-upon as we may sit quietly for 10–15 minutes at a time.

- Water and snacks if needed.

This event is free and suitable for adults and mature children. RSVPs are required because spots are limited. Please cancel via email if you change plans.

Accessibility: This walk does require travel on a single-track, dirt trail, most of which is ADA-compliant. The trail is wide but a little uneven, including a slight up hill. Off trail travel is optional.

Oct 16    Sam Bush
In 1971, Sam Bush and his Bluegrass Alliance mates - Ebo Walker, Courtney Johnson, and Curtis Burch - formed the New Grass Revival, issuing the band's debut, "New Grass Revival". Walker left soon after, replaced temporarily by Butch Robins, with the quartet solidifying around the arrival of bassist John Cowan. "There were already people that had deviated from Bill Monroe's style of bluegrass," Bush explains. "If anything, we were reviving a newgrass style that had already been started. Our kind of music tended to come from the idea of long jams and rock-&-roll songs."

Shunned by some traditionalists, New Grass Revival played bluegrass fests slotted in late-night sets for the "long-hairs and hippies." Quickly becoming a favorite of rock audiences, they garnered the attention of Leon Russell, one of the era's most popular artists. Russell hired New Grass as his supporting act on a massive tour in 1973 that put the band nightly in front of tens of thousands. At tour's end, it was back to headlining six nights a week at an Indiana pizza joint. But, they were resilient, grinding it out on the road. And in 1975 the Revival first played Telluride, Colorado, forming a connection with the region and its fans that has prospered for 45 years.

Bush was the newgrass commando, incorporating a variety of genres into the repertoire. He discovered a sibling similarity with the reggae rhythms of Marley and The Wailers, and, accordingly, developed an ear-turning original style of mandolin playing. The group issued five albums in their first seven years, and in 1979 became Russell's backing band. By 1981, Johnson and Burch left the group, replaced by banjoist Bela Fleck and guitarist Pat Flynn.

A three-record contract with Capitol Records and a conscious turn to the country market took the Revival to new commercial heights. Bush survived a life-threatening bout with cancer, and returned to the group that'd become more popular than ever. They released chart-climbing singles, made videos, earned Grammy nominations, and, at their zenith, called it quits. "We were on the verge of getting bigger," recalls Bush. "Or maybe we'd gone as far as we could. I'd spent 18 years in a four-piece partnership. I needed a break. But, I appreciated the 18 years we had."

Bush worked the next five years with Emmylou Harris' Nash Ramblers, then a stint with Lyle Lovett. He took home three-straight IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year awards, 1990-92, (and a fourth in 2007). In 1995 he reunited with Fleck, now a burgeoning superstar, and toured with the Flecktones, reigniting his penchant for improvisation. Then, finally, after a quarter-century of making music with New Grass Revival and collaborating with other bands, Sam Bush went solo.

He's released seven albums and a live DVD over the past two decades. In 2009, the Americana Music Association awarded Bush the Lifetime Achievement Award for Instrumentalist. Punch Brothers, Steep Canyon Rangers, and Greensky Bluegrass are just a few present-day bluegrass vanguards among so many musicians he's influenced. His performances are annual highlights of the festival circuit, with Bush's joyous perennial appearances at the town's famed bluegrass fest earning him the title, "King of Telluride."

"With this band I have now I am free to try anything. Looking back at the last 50 years of playing newgrass, with the elements of jazz improvisation and rock-&-roll, jamming, playing with New Grass Revival, Leon, and Emmylou; it's a culmination of all of that," says Bush. "I can unapologetically stand onstage and feel I'm representing those songs well."

Be entertained by local legend John Dunnigan in the Boat Club. If Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor and John Prine were joined together in some bizarre musical cloning experiment, the outcome would be John Dunnigan. Oct 23    The St. Olaf Orchestra
The St. Olaf Orchestra, conducted by Chung Park, is a full symphony orchestra, rich in international artistry and tradition and known for its enthusiastic and passionate performances. The orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, Valerie Coleman's Seven O'Clock Shout, and more!

Founded in 1906 at St. Olaf College, the 90-member ensemble has been heralded as one of the best collegiate orchestras in the country and received the 2013 and 2018-19 American Prize in Orchestral Performance among colleges and universities. Often compared to professional orchestras, the St. Olaf Orchestra was heralded as one of the best collegiate orchestras by TIME magazine.

The St. Olaf Orchestra first toured in 1949, traveling through Minnesota and Iowa to encourage the development of high school string programs. Over the next several decades, the orchestra program grew and flourished. They have toured most of the United States, internationally throughout Europe, and to China, Argentina, and Uruguay. They have also performed with world-renowned conductors and artist-performers including Robert Shaw, Kyzystof Penderecki, Leon Fleisher and Sarah Chang. The orchestra has regularly appeared on public television as part of the annual St. Olaf Christmas Festival, and on National Public Radio, including regular features on their popular Performance Today.

Oct 24    Gaelic Storm
WCC is pleased to welcome GAELIC STORM back to the Flathead Valley for a return performance following their inaugural show in McClaren Hall in 2024.

It’s hard to imagine a band just coming into their own after 20 years of success, but that’s exactly what makes a true anomaly. GAELIC STORM, the multi-national Celtic music juggernaut grows stronger with each live performance, and as you can imagine, after two decades and over 2,000 shows, are a true force to be reckoned with. With their latest release, Go Climb a Tree, their music has never sounded more representative of themselves as musicians and as live performers.

The band attributes their continued success to their fanatic audience, and it’s a well-diversified crowd for sure. The country-music folks adore the storytelling, the bluegrass-heads love the instrumentals, Celtic fans love their devotion to tradition, and the rockers simply relish the passion they play their instruments with. Each band member, in their own way, expresses a deep gratitude for their fans, but it’s best summed up in the words of Patrick Murphy: “The fans are the ones that have given us this life. We’re here for them."

Oct 25    Live Music at The Boat Club Bar featuring John Dunnigan
Be entertained by local legend John Dunnigan in the Boat Club. If Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor and John Prine were joined together in some bizarre musical cloning experiment, the outcome would be John Dunnigan. This "offbeat" musician and entertainer took the backroads to Montana over three decades ago and never left (he's no fool). His original, often hilarious songs make you think, laugh, sing along and raise your glass in a toast to life. In short, he can put a smile on your face.

Oct 25    The Tallest Man on Earth
"Music is my primary way of asking really loud questions. Most of my songs are big life questions, how to live and function in this world".

The Swedish singer-songwriter troubadour Kristian Matsson, better known as The Tallest Man on Earth has a rare talent for captivating an audience with just his raw, grainy voice and a guitar. He plays various string instruments, ranging from acoustic guitar, banjo and he recently picked up and started exploring the realm of the violin as well. The coming year will see him on the road again through Europe and North America.

The project of Kristian Matsson - who has spent much of the last 19 years touring around the world as The Tallest Man on Earth - has captivated audiences using “every inch of his long guitar cord to roam the stage: darting around, crouching, stretching, hip-twitching, perching briefly and jittering away…” (The New York Times). In 2020, Matsson left New York City and returned to his farm in Sweden where he drowned out his thoughts by manically growing vegetables in his garden. It was only near the end of 2021, as he began to tour again, that the inspiration returned. “When I’m in motion, I can focus on my instinct, have my daydreams again. When I was finally able to tour again, I started writing like a madman.” He eventually had a collection of songs, revealing what would become Henry St, an album that sees Matsson exploring his own stubborn optimism and “how to be a person in this world”.

After 2015's Dark Bird Is Home, described by Pitchfork as his "most personal record... surreal and dreamlike," and his self-released I Love YouIt’s a Fever Dream in 2019, Kristian Matsson returned in 2022 with the intricate cover album Too Late for Edelweiss. In 2023, he unveiled his sixth album, Henry St., marking the first time he recorded with a full band. “For most of my career, I’ve been a DIY artist, driven by the feeling that I didn’t know what I was doing, so I just handled everything myself,” Matsson explained. But with Henry St., he craved the creative spark that comes from collaboration and invited his friends to join him in the studio.

Critics often draw comparisons between The Tallest Man on Earth and Bob Dylan, citing similarities in both songwriting and vocal style. Matsson himself has acknowledged Dylan's influence, revealing that he started listening to him at the age of fifteen. Fascinated by Dylan's covers, he delved into their origins, which gradually introduced him to early American folk artists like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. However, Matsson is quick to distance himself from being part of any specific tradition, stating, “I don’t want to be part of a tradition. I just want to do what feels natural to me. This is how I play, and this is how I write songs".

Nov 8    Glacier Symphony Performs “The Poetry of Meaning” at Wachholz Center

The Poetry of Meaning: Glacier Chorale in Concert

November 8, 2025

Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Wachholz College Center

Every year, the Glacier Chorale and Chorale Conductor, Dr. Micah Hunter, wow our audience with a themed night of impressive choral music. Our chorale’s voices fill the hall with only piano accompaniment, and it is a very special musical experience and important time to support our hard working and talented chorale.

Join us for “The Poetry of Meaning,” a concert that ventures beyond mere performance to explore a captivating philosophical query: Can music truly convey meaning?  Through a carefully curated section of beautiful and masterfully performed choral pieces, we will demonstrate how meaning is intrinsically linked to the poetic spirit.  Prepare to discover how the musical interpretation of poetry transcends, or even redefines, the meaning of the poetry itself.  Whether you are drawn to the intellectual discourse or simply seek an evening of glorious choral artistry, this event promises to be deeply rewarding.

His pieces regularly appear in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.” The two volumes of his diaries, Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977-2002) and A Carnival of Snackery, Diaries (2003-2020) were New York Times bestsellers. An art book of Sedaris’s diary covers, David Sedaris Diaries: A Visual Compendium , was edited by Jeffrey Jenkins. His most recent book, Happy-Go-Lucky, debuted at number one on the New York Times best-seller list. The audio version of Happy-Go-Lucky, written and narrated by Sedaris, won the 2023 Audie Award. His first children's book, Pretty Ugly (TOON Books, February 27, 2024), has illustrations by Ian Falconer and received a ‘star’ review from Kirkus.

Sedaris and his sister, Amy Sedaris, have collaborated under the name “The Talent Family” and have written half-a-dozen plays which have been produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center, and The Drama Department in New York City. These plays include Stump the HostStitchesOne Woman Shoe, which received an Obie Award, Incident at Cobbler’s Knob, and The Book of Liz, which was published in book form by Dramatists Play Service.

Sedaris has been nominated for five Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy Album. His audio recordings include “David Sedaris: Live for Your Listening Pleasure” and “David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall.” A feature film adaptation of his story C.O.G. was released after a premiere at the Sundance Film Festival (2013). Since 2011, he can be heard annually on a series of live recordings on BBC Radio 4 entitled “Meet David Sedaris.”  In 2019 David Sedaris became a regular contributor to CBS Sunday Morning, and his Masterclass, David Sedaris Teaches Storytelling and Humor, was released.

There are over 16 million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 32 languages. He has been awarded the Terry Southern Prize for Humor, Thurber Prize for American Humor, Jonathan Swift International Literature Prize for Satire and Humor, Time 2001 Humorist of the Year Award, as well as the Medal for Spoken Language from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In March 2019 he was elected as a member into the American Academy of Arts and Letters. In 2020 the New York Public Library voted Me Talk Pretty One Day one of the 125 most important books of the last 125 years.

“Sedaris ain’t the preeminent humorist of his generation by accident”   -Whitney Pastorek, Entertainment Weekly

“Sedaris has hit upon the narrative equivalent of Pepsi, or the PlayStation, or oxygen, or the haircut: something that others in the world might actually want and find useful. . .  He’s smart, he’s caustic, he’s mordant, and, somehow, he’s . . . well, nice.”   -Bill Richardson, Toronto Globe and Mail

“Sedaris’s droll assessment of the mundane and the eccentrics who inhabit the world’s crevices make him one of the greatest humorists writing today.”   -Chicago Tribune

“Sedaris belongs on any list of people writing in English at the moment who are revising our ideas about what’s funny.”   -San Francisco Chronicle

Nov 15    Glacier Symphony Performs Romantic Cathedral at Wachholz Center

Romantic Cathedral

November 15, 2025

Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Wachholz College Center

Award winning, Ukrainian born pianist Anna Shelest, known as a champion of women composers, is featured in two exciting works for piano and orchestra by historically significant women composers. Clara Schumann’s only Piano Concerto is testament to her considerable talent as a composer and virtuoso pianist. The work is steeped in the Romantic tradition with lush harmonies and longing melodies. Chaminade’s exciting work is brilliant in orchestral colour and pianistic technique. Brahms’ symphonic masterpiece sometimes considered the composer’s “pastoral” symphony, at times envelops and soars like a Romantic Cathedral.

THE EVEREST ENIGMA
Everest has always loomed large in our collective imaginations as the perfect embodiment of what a mountain should be: beautiful, terrifying - and yet, irresistible. But who really was the first to answer its siren call? History tells us that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made the first ascent in May 1953, but there has always been a tantalizing possibility that British mountaineers George Leigh Mallory and Andrew “Sandy” Irvine may have beaten them to it. Mallory and Irvine were last seen on June 8, 1924, at 28,200 feet - just 800 feet shy of the summit - still going strong for the top. Could they have summited before they vanished into the clouds? The Everest Enigma is the tale of Mark Synnott’s quest to solve this 100-year-old mystery, a modern-day detective story that will take you from the archives of the RGS in London to high in the Death Zone, and then finally to the base of the North Face - where Sandy’s partial remains recently emerged from the ice.

About Mark
Mark Synnott is a New York Times best-selling author, a pioneering professional climber, a North Face athlete, and one of the most prolific explorers of his generation. His search for unclimbed and unexplored mountains has taken him on more than three dozen expeditions to places like Alaska, Baffin Island, Greenland, Iceland, Newfoundland, Patagonia, Guyana, Venezuela, Pakistan, Nepal, India, China, Tibet, Uzbekistan, Russia, Cameroon, Chad, Borneo, Oman and Pitcairn Island. In Yosemite, he has climbed El Capitan 24 times. In 2019, Mark summited Mount Everest via the Northeast Ridge, an adventure chronicled in his book The Third Pole: Mystery, Obsession and Death on Mount Everest. More recently, he sailed his 47-foot fiberglass-hulled sailboat Polar Sun through the Northwest Passage, an adventure chronicled in his fourth book, Into the Ice: The Northwest Passage, the Polar Sun, and a 175-year-old Mystery. Mark’s film and television credits include work for National Geographic Television, Disney, NBC Sports, ABC, Warren Miller Entertainment, Teton Gravity Research, and Red Bull. An accomplished journalist, he contributes regularly to National Geographic magazine, and is the author of the international bestseller, The Impossible Climb: Alex Honnold, El Capitan and the Climbing Life.

INSIDE WONDERLAB: EXPLORING NATURE'S HIDDEN WORLDS
Step into a world of wonder with biologist-turned-photographer Anand Varma as he unlocks the mysteries of nature through cutting-edge photography techniques. In his Berkeley-based WonderLab, Anand captures the invisible behaviors of the natural world, beyond our naked eye. His images and videos reveal the hidden worlds that exist just outside of our perception, from the mesmerizing life cycle of a honeybee to the lightning-fast wings of a hummingbird. With Anand’s expert guidance, we can slow down the fast, speed up the slow, and magnify the miniature, enabling us to see the true beauty and complexity of the natural world.

About Anand
With a background in integrative biology, Anand Varma uses photography and video to share the science and stories behind things the naked eye cannot perceive - like the mating practices of jellyfish and the hunting habits of vampire bats in the Yucatan rain forest. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, Anand spent several years assisting photographer David Liittschwager before receiving a National Geographic grant to document the wetlands of Patagonia in 2010. He has photographed numerous stories for National Geographic magazine, including the 2014 cover story, “Mindsuckers” - revealing the story of the world’s most resourceful parasites, the kind that can alter their hosts’ DNA and even control their minds. He has been a National Geographic emerging explorer, Media Innovation fellow, and Civic Science fellow, and has won the World Press Photo Award for best nature story.

Mar 1    Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra

WCC is pleased to welcome OTTMAR LIEBERT & LUNA NEGRA to the Flathead Valley.

Ottmar Liebert?s global success can be attributed to a myriad of things ? his creative vision, his determination and a strong sense of melody. Born in Cologne, Germany, he began playing guitar at 11. As an adult he pursued his dreams of playing rock music in Boston, and then settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santa Fe was a fresh start for Liebert in many ways and in addition to returning to the acoustic guitar, he remained open to letting the place define the music he made. It was this openness to the local landscape that defined what was to become his musical style, a mix of Spanish, Mexican and World elements, strong melodies tinged with a shade of melancholy, balanced with upbeat rhythms. Liebert founded the first incarnation of his band, Luna Negra, in 1989.

Liebert has since become one of the most successful instrumental artists of the past decades, entertaining audiences around the world and releasing a catalog of 33 classic albums including live recordings, an orchestral album for Sony Classical, a binaural surround sound recording, remix albums, a lullaby and a flamenco-reggae album.

Mar 15    Rising Appalachia
WCC is pleased to welcome RISING APPALACHIA to the Flathead Valley.

Rising Appalachia is an internationally touring folk ensemble steeped in the soul of the South. It is the brainchild of Atlanta-raised sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith, rooted in the rich musical traditions of their family and their journey into song as performers, writers, and song catchers. They have that touch that only siblings can have. And now, fresh off the press, they present their first album of cover songs Folk & Anchor, a carefully curated collection of remakes. From Bob Dylan to Hoizer, Erykah Badu to Beyonce, hear these songs in a voice uniquely their own. Recorded at Echo Mountain in Asheville North Carolina, the band has leaned into new renditions of old favorites, showcasing their wide range of style and sound.

Rising Appalachia makes music as a reflection of their times, blending Americana music with lyrics, rhythm and poetry of our times. The band's unique sound was shaped by Leah and Chloe's soulful vocals, simple instrumentation, and seamless harmonies,  unique to siblings steeped in the multi-generational music of the South. They are joined by a host of incredible musicians who bring their own cultural influences, enriching the blend of Appalachian, Irish, Americana, Latin and world roots music that defines the smooth sound of Rising Appalachia.

Fronted by Leah and Chloe, and featuring full-time members David Brown (upright bass, baritone guitar), Duncan Wickel (fiddle, cello), and Biko Casini (drums and percussion), expect to be swooned into a tapestry of silky sounds. Their journey has taken them around the world, from sailboat tours across British Columbia to street theater festivals in Southern Italy, a full-time busking career in New Orleans, and traditional song studies in Ireland, Bulgaria, Latin America, and beyond.

They also continue to immerse in community building, cultural exchange programs, traditional folkloric studies, and music gathering everywhere that they go. Their dedication for nearly two decades to their craft has led them to acclaimed appearances (Telluride and Bluegrass Festival, Preservation Jazz Hall, Bob Boilen's Tiny Desk Concert, Red Rocks, and many more) and sold-out concerts at venues across the world. Through their music, Rising Appalachia bridges culture and stories, creating connections that resonate deeply with their audiences of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Expect a boot-stomping banjo tune alongside an acapella ballad... all mashed up with breathtaking cello, a flatpicking guitar medley, and undeniable groove.

Eschewing established industry norms, Leah, Chloe, and their team have followed the invitation to intuitively and independently forge their own path. Sixteen years and seven studio albums in, this is their first full cover album and it welcomes you into an ambitious adventure that has already taken these medicine women around the world and back. Come and make this music your own.

Apr 11    MOMIX: Alice
WCC is pleased to bring MOMIX: ALICE to the Flathead Valley.  ALICE is a performance by MOMIX, a dance company known for illusion and acrobatics, inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE...
Travel down the rabbit hole MOMIX-style with Moses Pendleton's newest creation, ALICE, inspired by Alice in Wonderland. As Alice’s body grows and shrinks and grows again, Pendleton’s dancers extend themselves by means of props, ropes, and other dancers.

“I don’t intend to retell the whole Alice story” he says, “but to use it as a taking off point for invention. I’m curious to see what will emerge, and I’m getting curiouser and curiouser the more I learn about Lewis Carroll, who like me was a devoted photographer.”

The Alice story is full of imagery and absurd logic – before there was surrealism there was Alice. Alice is an invitation to invent, to let imagination run and play outside. “Ask Alice,” sang Grace Slick in “White Rabbit” – she also said, “feed your head.”

Pendleton continues, “You can see why I think Alice is a natural fit for MOMIX and an opportunity for us to extend our reach. I want to take this show into places we haven’t been before in terms of the fusion of dancing, lighting, music, costumes, and projected imagery.” As with every MOMIX production, you never quite know what you are going to get. Audiences will be taken on a journey that is both magical, mysterious, fun, eccentric, and much more. As Alice falls down the rabbit hole and experiences every kind of transformation, so will you.

Apr 19    Solas
WCC is pleased to welcome SOLAS to the Flathead Valley.

Solas is lighting up stages across the globe as they celebrate three decades of pushing boundaries and honoring traditions in Irish music. Hailed by The Boston Globe as “the finest Celtic ensemble this country has ever produced,” and by The Wall Street Journal as “an Irish traditional band bearing all the marks of greatness,” Solas continues to captivate audiences with their spellbinding musicianship and genre-defying creativity.

Formed in New York City in 1995, Solas quickly rose to prominence as a revolutionary force in Irish-American music. The very first iteration of Solas brought together a lineup of extraordinary talent including multi-instrumentalist Séamus Egan, fiddler Winifred Horan, vocalist Karan Casey, guitarist John Doyle, and accordionist John Williams. Together, they redefined the Celtic sound for a new generation, weaving traditional Irish tunes with elements of folk, bluegrass, Americana, and contemporary songwriting.

Now, with twelve critically acclaimed albums and a reputation for dynamic, emotionally charged live performances, Solas has set new standards for musicianship, repertoire, and intensity. Their debut album Solas (1996) established a bold new voice in traditional music, and each subsequent release has showcased the band’s remarkable ability to tell stories that resonate across time and cultures.

Among their most ambitious works is the 2013 concept album Shamrock City, a deeply personal project inspired by Egan’s great-great-uncle, who immigrated from Ireland to the mining town of Butte, Montana in the early 1900s. The album is a powerful meditation on immigrant identity, labor struggles, and lost dreams, and it solidified Solas’ reputation as not only virtuosic musicians but evocative storytellers.

Their 2016 release, All These Years, marked the band’s 20th anniversary and featured contributions from every past and present member. It was both a celebration of their journey and a showcase of their creative evolution.  While Solas has seen various lineup changes over the years, the spirit of innovation and reverence for Irish tradition has remained constant. Through every chapter, founding members Séamus Egan and Winifred Horan have steered the band with passion and vision. In 2025, they are joined by original accordionist John Williams and welcome two celebrated contemporary artists to the stage: renowned Irish singer and flutist Nuala Kennedy and guitarist Alan Murray.

This powerhouse ensemble brings the magic of Solas to life in a performance that promises to be both a homecoming and a new beginning. Audiences can expect an unforgettable musical journey filled with driving rhythms, soaring melodies, and heartfelt vocals that pay tribute to Irish roots while embracing new creative frontiers.  Solas’ music has always existed at the intersection of tradition and transformation. Whether interpreting a centuries-old ballad or unveiling an original composition, the band approaches each piece with curiosity, skill, and deep emotional resonance. Their ability to evolve without losing their essence has made them a cornerstone of the Celtic music scene and an inspiration to countless artists.

As they mark their 30th anniversary as a band, Solas invites longtime fans and new listeners alike to join the celebration.
