This is a community meeting addressing Population Change, Aging & Vulnerability to Wildfire in the Flathead Valley that will take place on July 13 from 8:30-10:30am. Recent population changes in the Flathead Valley have the potential to increase peoples’ vulnerability to wildfire. Professor and Demographer, Richelle Winkler, will summarize new data from Census 2020 and recent migration data, explaining and mapping how and where population is changing across Flathead County and the implications for wildfire vulnerability. Participants will then be asked to participate in small group discussions about wildfire vulnerability and strategies to reduce risk in the region. Information that participants share will be used to guide research addressing wildfire vulnerabilities and practices to reduce risk. Participants will also have an opportunity to build networks and share information with service providers, community leaders, planners, and emergency responders from across the Flathead Valley. Everyone is invited. We hope that you will share this event information with colleagues and anyone else you think would be interested.
