A Special Two-Night Run • October 23 & 24 • The Second Story • Whitefish, MT
Two nights. Two powerhouse string bands. One very special Whitefish run.
North Fork Crossing and Silas Herman & The Tone Unit come together for a special two-night engagement at The Second Story in downtown Whitefish, bringing an evening of bluegrass, jamgrass, Americana, psychedelic folk, and old-time string music to an intimate indoor room.
North Fork Crossing is a new-age bluegrass band living somewhere between the traditional world of timeless fiddle tunes and ballads and the wide-open possibilities of the jamgrass community. Their intricate improvisation, energetic peaks, modern covers, and old-time country influences create a live experience that is constantly evolving — leaving audiences dancing, smiling, and wondering where the music will go next.
Based in Montana's Gallatin Valley, the quintet of Cade Slayden, Ryan Kelly, Rabi Phelan, Silas Rea, and Matt Hickey is part of a new generation pushing string band music forward without losing sight of its roots. Their recently released sophomore album, Portland Rose, showcases that evolution with 12 new studio tracks blending traditional bluegrass, old-time music, jamgrass, heartfelt ballads, and hard-driving banjo.
Joining them is Silas Herman & The Tone Unit, led by the Colorado-born multi-instrumentalist whose music draws from new acoustic, folk, bluegrass, psychedelic, and Americana traditions. From intimate acoustic performances to high-energy improvisational sets, Silas has built a reputation for virtuosic playing and deeply soulful performances.
His musical journey has taken him from intimate rooms to Red Rocks Amphitheatre, sharing stages with legendary acts including Billy Strings, Sam Bush, Del McCoury, The Infamous Stringdusters, Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band, Greensky Bluegrass, Railroad Earth, Kitchen Dwellers, The Lil Smokies, and more.
For two nights only, these artists bring their unique interpretations of string music to The Second Story.
Expect soaring fiddle, ripping banjo, intricate picking, psychedelic explorations, old-school roots, modern energy, and plenty of room for the music to wander.
This isn't a show you want to catch from the back of a massive venue. This is the kind of night that belongs in a room like this.
