Join us every Sunday during Advent to pray a Rosary and break bread together!
Let’s come together to pray for our families and our country. Whether you’re Catholic or not, familiar with the rosary or new to it, everyone is welcome.
We’ll have Rosaries and prayer instructions available, so just bring yourself, your family, and a delicious dish to share. We look forward to gathering in prayer and community!
A little history on the origin of the Rosary...
The rosary, derived from the Latin word rosarium, meaning "garland of roses," refers to a string of beads used for prayer and meditation. Typically, a rosary consists of five decades of ten beads each, with additional larger beads separating them, totaling fifty-four beads. Variations exist, including those with thirty-three beads (representing Jesus' years on earth) or twelve beads.
Originating in ninth-century Ireland, the rosary was developed by monks who used it to keep track of the 150 Psalms during prayer, with each decade marking ten psalms. This practice helped those who were illiterate to engage in worship through the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer. Over time, verses from the Bible, particularly from Luke, were incorporated into the prayers associated with the beads.
For over 1,200 years, the rosary has served as a powerful symbol of prayer and devotion, transcending denominational boundaries and adapting to various Christian practices. It has been used for meditation, scripture memorization, and personal reflection, making it a significant aspect of Christian worship and spirituality.
Today, as we gather with the Rosary beads, we’ll pray through the five “mysteries,” reflecting on the life of Christ. Each mystery allows us to meditate deeply, reciting the “Hail Mary, full of grace…” along with other beautiful scriptures that enrich our prayers. Together, let’s immerse ourselves in this sacred tradition and draw closer to the heart of Jesus.
