Kiln Assistant Position
Stumptown Art Studio is searching for a part-time Kiln Assistant. The perfect applicant will be friendly, flexible and with positive energy, as this position is both guest facing AND behind the scenes.
Work Days are Friday through Sunday from approximately 12-5pm. These hours are semi-fluid and depend on the volume of pottery that needs to be processed.
Kiln Assistant Responsibilities

Oversee the workflow of painted pottery that is created during your shifts; ensure all pieces are ready for clear glazing and firing

Handling, overglazing, loading and unloading kilns

Ensure orders are grouped and organized for pickup

Assist floor staff as needed with pick-ups and wrapping up orders

Work Requirements:

Must be able to multi-task, work at a fast but detail-oriented pace

Ability to twist and bend to load/unload/clean shelves & kiln

Ability to lift 30+ pounds repetitively

Ability to work on your feet for extended times: typically your entire shift

Ability to carry loads of pottery up and down a flight of stairs

Fine motor skills to accurately dip & glaze bisque & load items into the kiln
While the primary focus of the Kiln Assistant position will be processing customer pieces, loading/unloading kilns and organizing customer orders, we also require an overall knowledge of Stumptown Art Studio operations and programs so that general customer questions can be answered, and the floor staff can get backup assistance if needed.
Kiln experience preferred but we are willing to train the right applicant.
Starting wage: $16 per hour
