Position Overview
Wild North Guides is seeking a reliable, service oriented, and experienced Tour Guide to lead primarily driving-based tours, while supporting other day-to-day guiding and shuttle operations. These include Going to the Sun Road e-Biking, day hiking, assisting on painting and photography experiences, long distance shuttle rides, guest communication, and trip logistics. This role focuses on delivering high-quality sightseeing and guest experiences, with additional responsibilities.
Compensation & Schedule
- Starting Pay: $20/hour, plus tips
- Employment Type: 1099 Contractor (non-employee position)
- Typical Schedule: Thursday/Friday through Monday/Tuesday, 8 to 5 with some evening or early morning requirements
- Pre-approved unpaid time off is available
- Housing is not provided
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and co-lead scenic driving tours in and around Glacier National Park and the Flathead Valley
- Safely operate a passenger van on mountain roads and gravel terrain
- Guide occasional e-bike tours, day hikes, photography workshops, and painting workshops
- Provide engaging interpretation of the area including history, ecology, geology, wildlife,
- and culture
- Assist with trip preparation, breakdown, and logistics
- Answer phones, respond to texts, and communicate with guests as needed
- Support daily operations and overall team coordination
Driving Requirements
- Clean driving record
- Comfortable operating a passenger van
- Ability to confidently drive in mountainous terrain, narrow roads, and on gravel or variable road conditions
- Ability to remain alert and focused while driving for extended periods
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 80 lbs occasionally
- Hike 3–10 miles per day on average and up to 15 miles occasionally
- Gain up to 3,000 ft of elevation in a day
- Travel over rocky, uneven terrain
- Work in variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions
Minimum Requirements
- Clean driving record
- Previous guiding, tour guiding, customer service, or relevant leadership experience
- CPR and Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification (WFR preferred)
- 5-Years of Backcountry Experience - Personal or Professional Considered
- Ability to safely drive for long periods in mountain environments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Meet all physical requirements listed above
